Adapt or die

Charles Darwin said long time ago, “It is not the most intellectual of the species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able to adapt to and to adjust best to the changing environment in which it finds itself”. With startups it also applies, instead of crisis or problems, we must think about opportunities in order to adapt ourselves to the new environments and situations, and that is what we did in Sycai Technologies.

After just 2 months of life when the pandemic occurred, our company, as many others, found itself in front of a big question: Now what?

We started Sycai with the goal of democratizing the use of artificial vision and our first customers were companies, which wanted to use our technology to supervise electric installations from drones. Of course, at that point and because of the COVID-19 lockdown in Spain, the sector stopped, and we started thinking how to apply our know-how to solve some of the new needs that the society had.

This approach, addressing needs of the society, is very important for companies giving their first steps, because almost half of the #startups fail because the lack of a market willing to buy their product [1]. It could seem very obvious from the outside, but focussing on the features of the product and the possibilities of the technology and not on the #needs and the #pains of customers, is a really extended mistake. As builders, we really enjoy the creation process and we fall in love with our product, just wanting it to be the “best and prettiest”, which most of the times is not what customers expect.

At Sycai, while we were thinking how the environment was changing, something came to our minds, what if we apply our technology to help doctors in these hard times? And we immediately started contacting them, talking to them, and listening what they needed.

That is how AI MedAssist was conceived, how we completed our team and how Sycai Technologies turned into what it is today.

So next time you face a #crisis, are you going to think about the problem or about all the #opportunities it brings?
